Brumfield joins the Louisiana Board of Regents as Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs, Innovation, and Student Success

Randall Brumfield, EdD, has joined the Louisiana Board of Regents as Deputy Commissioner for Academic Affairs, Innovation, and Student Success. Working with Board members and the state's four college systems, Dr. Brumfield is responsible for developing higher education policy and practices responsive to state educational and workforce needs. This includes coordinating and implementing student success initiatives identified in the Board's Master Plan, helping build an accessible and cohesive postsecondary system facilitating academic and career success, and developing statewide strategies to improve access to and achievement through college-level study.

Prior to joining the LBR office, Dr. Randall was Chief Academic Officer for the Idaho State Board of Education. His work focused on helping facilitate a more seamless P-20 educational continuum. He developed policy supporting greater affordability, credit for prior learning, transfer articulation, math pathways, and remedial instruction among other student-centered priorities.

Previous to this work, he served in various capacities in academic affairs, enrollment management, and student development. From working with large public research universities, to supporting community college collaborations and small liberal arts college environments, he has spent more than 15 years in higher education helping to improve the experience and success for a diverse range of students. This experience includes roles with the University of Kansas, University of Central Florida, University of Arkansas, and Randolph-Macon College. From implementing balanced scorecard methodologies to integrating data analytics in student success initiatives, his team's efforts have been recognized at regional and national levels by professional organizations for developing best practices towards student retention and graduation efforts.

Dr. Randall holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, a Master of Public Administration degree with an emphasis in Higher Education, and a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Administration, all from the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville).
