ULM names Pratte Dean of the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences

John PratteAfter a national search, the University of Louisiana – Monroe has selected John M. Pratte, Ph.D. to serve as the Dean of the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences. Dr. Pratte brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in higher education to the position.

A Professor of Physics at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Dr. Pratte has held leadership roles throughout his 11-year career at ASU. He served as Dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics, as Associate Dean of Research and External Engagement, and as Chair of the Chemistry and Physics Department.

Prior to joining ASU in 2006, Dr. Pratte was on the faculty at Kennesaw State University for six years and Clayton State University for seven years. Before his career in higher education, he was a geophysicist with Shell Oil Company for three years.

Dr. Pratte holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Texas, Austin and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was named a SENCER Leadership Fellow by the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement in 2008 and was awarded the Distinguished Scholar award by the College of Science and Mathematics at Kennesaw State University in 2005.
