Savannah State University appoints Gayle as the Chair of the Department of Social Work

Savannah State University has named Catherine Gayle, PhD, LCSW, CCFC, MFLAC, MAC as chair of the Department of Social Work in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. She brings more than three decades of experience in higher education and clinical settings to her role at the university.

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Gayle served nine years as Chair of the Department of Social Work at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Over her career, she has held administrative and/or academic positions at West Georgia Technical College, Miles College, Lawson State Community College, Talladega College, Voorhees College, and Denmark Technical College.

Before entering higher education, she worked with the Cobb County Substance Abuse Program, Viewpoint of Metropolitan Atlanta, Fulton County Substance Abuse Center, and Grady Hospital, all in Georgia.

A native of Savannah, Ga., Dr. Gayle earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Tuskegee University, Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University, and Ph.D. in Social Work from Clark-Atlanta University.
