Northwest Missouri State University Names Jasinski as 10th President

Myers McRae joins the Board of Regents of Northwest Missouri State University in announcing the appointment of John Jasinski, Ph.D., as the institution’s tenth president. Dr. Jasinski, executive vice president and chief academic and operating officer at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, will assume the presidency on July 1.

Dr. Jasinski was selected through a national search. His experience is extensive in both the academic and administrative areas on higher education, with a significant focus of quality improvement and leadership.

As a senior officer at Northwood University, he oversees the academics and operations of the private university’s three campuses in Midland; Cedar Hill, Texas; and West Palm Beach, Fla. He also provides leadership to Northwood’s programs at 34 satellite sites in eight states and its international program centers in China, Switzerland, Bahrain, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Utilizing his extensive background in designing and maintaining quality improvement systems, Dr. Jasinski collaborates with and guides the university’s senior administrators to ensure an environment focused on performance excellence, best practices and service to operating units. He works directly with deans in setting overall direction for academic programming, assessment and improvement.

His presidency will be the second time he has served at Northwest. From 1986 to 2001, Dr. Jasinski was a faculty member and administrator. For 12 years, he was assistant professor in the Department of Mass Communication, the last six years as Department Chair. He also served as associate provost. From 1995 to 2001, he co-led with the university president the Baldrige Category Council, a senior-level group charged to implement institutional improvement initiatives throughout the university, which became the Culture of Quality that is a hallmark of Northwest.

In 2001, he established Jasinski Consulting Services. In addition to being a personal coach to leaders and leadership teams, he provided consulting and training on leadership, organizational assessment, productivity and process improvement primarily to institutions, organizations and systems in the areas of education and health care. He was an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program for 10 years.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from Central Michigan University. His Ph.D. degree is from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in educational leadership and higher education administration.

Dr. Jasinski is active in civic affairs. While a member of the Northwest faculty, he served on the Maryville City Council from 2001 to 2007 and the board of St. Francis Hospital and Health Services from 1997 to 1999. He and his wife have four children.
